Success as a leader is built on the foundation of character
INTEGRITY
Integrity is a good catchword for character, but there are nuance’s that opens up a wider view of character. When you chase the etymological meaning of the word through the French and Latin origins you find this emphasis; “soundness, wholeness, completeness,” figuratively “purity, correctness, blamelessness”[1]. As you reflect upon this insight you realize that a life built upon Integrity is a life that is whole and undivided. There is a consistency about your leadership. You do not behave one way on an issue and then flip to the opposite end of thinking at a different time. You become trustworthy. People can count on your consistency of action and thinking.
When you apply these words to the building trades, we say that a building has integrity. This means that a building is sound in structure and function otherwise we would say the building’s integrity has been compromised. The craftsmanship, materials, and codes have been met and exceeded. As non-profit faith-based leaders we desire to build into our leading INTEGRITY. After all it is not about my house, my program, my dreams or my passions.
May I remind you of ancient conversation; “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail.” (Matthew 16:18 ESV).
